Training on Naga traditional loin loom concludes

Dimapur, Feb. 11 (EMN): A five-day hands-on training on Naga traditional loin loom for the students of Government Polytechnic Kohima at Exotic Echo Society Weavers Place in Diezephe village under Chümoukedima district concluded on Feburary 11. The training was conducted as part of the industrial tour for the final year students of fashion design and apparel production diploma course.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the extra assistant commissioner (EAC) of Chümoukedima, Seyiekhrietuo Solo, stated that weaving Naga traditional loin loom is not just about weaving but also a storytelling of their forefathers. Stating that traditional shawls and handicrafts are the last link of the forefathers, Solo has stressed on the need to conserve and also let the people from outside know their significance while presenting them with a gift.
Solo has also emphasised on the importance of geographical indications (GI) tagging of the products which provides legal protection.
Also addressing the gathering, proprietor of Fusion Store Temsusenla Kichu said that entrepreneurship is not an easy job as it involves many hurdles. Informing that with 50 to 60 entrepreneurs under the banner of Fusion, Kichu stated that they were doing a tremendous job in Nagaland. Kichu further advised the gathering to make s strong foundation of their brand in order to upscale their business in the long run.
A total of 17 students participated in the five-day of hands-on training with two faculty and four master weaving trainers.
The final year students of Government Polytechnic Kohima showcased their production and also shared their experiences.
