Training on Naga chilli and mushroom cultivation concludes

Dimapur, June 7 (EMN): Two day training programme on Naga chilli and mushroom cultivation under MIDH 2016-17, organized by the Department of Horticulture, in collaboration with the Jangpetkong Students Conference, (JSC) Mokokchung was concluded on July 7.
The resource person during the training programme, Senti Longchar (DK), Horticulture Officer, gave an overview about the importance of the training programme to the participants.
In the technical sessions, he emphasised on the importance of kitchen gardening for self sufficiency and better income generation. It was observed that consumption of king chilli was very less in Mokokchung district and for the same reason the cultivation of the crop was not under commercial scale. Even if the consumption rate is low, he suggested that they could go for commercial production of the crop to supply outside the state.
Longchar also gave a presentation on various nursery raising and cultivation techniques on king chilli in jhum fields.
On the second day topic on cultivation of oyster mushroom for rural livelihood was covered. He said oyster mushroom cultivation was the easiest and the most economical practice which could be carried out in the rural areas for their better income and livelihood.
The trainees had a hands-on demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation which was conducted by Longer Walling from State Horticulture Nursery, Dimapur.
EAC Alongkima, Longnyei, also encouraged the participants to cultivation various crop suitable in the area and further challenged the cultivators that distance and transportation should not be an excuse for commercialization of potential crops.
