Resource persons and health workers during the training programme on DAKSHATA held at District Hospital, Tuensang.

DIMAPUR — A three-day district-level training programme on DAKSHATA for healthcare workers was organised by the District Health Society (DHS) Tuensang, at conference hall, District Hospital, from April 2 to the 4th.

Dr. Longri Kichu, state consultant RMNCH+A, and Dr. Nungsangtemjen OBG, District Hospital Tuensang, were the resource persons of the training programme, an update stated.

Dr. Kichu provided comprehensive overview of DAKSHATA, elucidating its goals and objectives. He also covered a wide range of topics including safe childbirth checklist, threatened preterm birth, respectful maternity care, essential newborn care and complications in newborns.

He further dwelled on special care requirements for preterm and low birth weight babies, postpartum family planning counseling, labour room organisation and save delivery app.

Dr. Nungsangtemjen, on the other hand, focused on stages of labour, management of complications such as preeclampsia and eclampsia, normal delivery techniques, and postpartum care.

Additionally, Mununu, DPM (QA) emphasised on preventing infections and biomedical waste management during the training sessions.

The training included practical demonstrations using dummies to provide participants with hands-on experience. Pre-test and post-training assessments were conducted during the programme.

The participants, including medical officers, staff nurses, auxiliary nurse and mid-wives, and community health officers from various health units in the district, attended in the training sessions.
