MOKOKCHUNG — A three-day intensive training for animal health service providers in the Angetyongpang area, Mokokchung, concluded on November 25, with 42 people completing the training.

The valedictory programme, organised by the Angetyongpang Development Board (ADB) in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Officer, was held at the conference hall of State Poultry Farm, Mokokchung, according to a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. BM Sunep, chief AH&VS officer, Mokokchung, said that this training was the first of its kind in the state, where an elected legislator took the initiative to impart technical training for farmers in his constituency.

He emphasised that, given the prevalence of economically devastating diseases such as African swine fever, for which there are no vaccines or treatments, and classical swine fever, it has become essential for each village to have at least a couple of animal health service providers.

These providers are crucial in educating villagers about the importance of maintaining biosecurity measures and adopting other preventive strategies before diseases strike, he said, adding that this approach will not only aid in effective disease management but also assist individuals in securing self-employment and potentially starting their own livestock farms more successfully.

In his address, member of ADB Imlitoshi Walling expressed his appreciation for AH&VS Mokokchung, commended their dedication and hard work in providing practical training to the participants, and also thanked the constituency MLA for his initiative.

Trainee Alinungsang, speaking on behalf of all participants, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to attend such a training.

The resource persons for the three-day training programme were veterinary assistant surgeon Dr. Watitoshi and FM Dr. Nemjemyanger.

It may be mentioned that the initiative of establishing the ADB was the brainchild of Tongpang Ozukum, MLA and Advisor, Water Resources, to enhance the economic conditions of the people through various training programmes.

These trainees are set to offer services in their respective villages and wards, under the supervision of the Veterinary department in the district.
