TR Zeliang sworn in as 10th Chief Minister

Senior NPF leader TR Zeliang was today sworn in as the 10th Chief Minister of Nagaland at an official oath taking ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima. Governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Minister.
Zeliang, who has been involved in the State politics for over three decades, has taken over the reins from Neiphiu Rio. Rio resigned on Friday from the seat which he had occupied for the last 11 years, after his recent win in the Lok Sabha elections.
On Saturday, Governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar also administered the oath of office to 11 other members of the Council of Ministers which include Noke Wangnao, G Kaito Aye, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Kiyanilie Peseyie, Yanthungo Patton and P Longon from the previous Council of Ministers. The new names in the cabinet are C Kipili Sangtam, Dr. Niekiesalie Nicky Kire, CL John, Nuklutoshi and Dr. Benjongliba Aier, who have all been elevated from parliamentary secretaries.Members from the outgoing cabinet whose names were dropped from TR Zeliang’s new cabinet team are Imkong L. Imchen, CM Chang, EE Pangteang, S. Pangnyu Phom and Merentoshi R. Jamir.

Modi congratulates new CM
Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi today congratulated TR Zeliang who took oath as chief minister today.
“Congratulations to R Zeliang on taking oath as Nagaland CM. My best wishes and support in Nagaland’s development journey,” he tweeted.

Tokheho fetes TR
Congress Legislature Party leader Tokheho Yepthomi, on behalf of the Congress Legislature Party, congratulated TR Zeliang on taking charge as the new Chief Minister and hoped that he will discharge the enormous responsibility entrusted upon him with diligence and sincerity.
“Our State has a lot of issues which need to be addressed and we hope that he will take up these issues and address them in the right direction,” Tokheho said in a release today and wished the new Chief Minister the very best in all the endeavors he is about to undertake.
