Tourists flock to Manipur south district Churachandpur

Kuki Chin Mizo community dominated Churachandpur district became the most foreign tourists visited hill district among the five hill districts of Manipur.
As many as 298 foreign tourists visited the south western district of the state bordering Mizoram andMyanmar during the 2013-14, according to Manipur tourism department sources. A total of 4,564 tourists including 4,266 domestic and 298 foreigners visited the hill district in the time pepriod.After Churachandpur which has about 6 tourist spots, Senapati district stood second with 209 foreign tourists visiting the northern district bordering Nagaland. Senapati is followed by Ukhrul with 62 foreign tourists, Chandel 30 and Tamenglong 8.
With 15,217 domestic tourists, Chandel district has attracted maximum number of both foreign and domestic tourists among all the five hill districts while Churachandpur has 4,266 domesctic tourists. Churachandpur is followed by Ukhrul (3675), Tamenglong (2576) and Senapati (347).
The source also revealed that there are 21 tourist spots in the five hill districts including 6 in Churachandpur district, 5 in Senapati, 4 in Ukhrul and 3 each in Chandel and Tamenglong.
The maximum number of tourist spots according to the state tourism department source are located in Manipur’s Imphal East district (12) followed by Bishnupur district (10), Imphal West district (9) and Thoubal (5).
It may be worth mentioning here that as many as 1,22,964 tourists including 1,932 foreign and 1,21,032 domestic tourists visited Manipur in 2013-14 against 1,32,571 tourists including 768 foreign and 1,31,803 domestic tourists in 2012-13, as per the official records.
