Tourism official delighted by hike in number of visitors

Record total of 243214 tourists visit Hornbill Festival 2017

Kohima, Dec. 10 (EMN): The 18th edition of Hornbill Festival which concluded on Sunday recorded an increase number of both domestic and foreign tourists in comparison to the previous edition. As per information provided by Toka E Tuccumi, tourist officer and statistics in-charge, this year’s festival recorded a total of 2,43,214 tourists which include 2401 foreign, 38700 domestic and 2,02,113 local visitors at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. The last day of the festival recorded 129 foreign tourists, 12055 domestic and 54, 290 local visitors.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, Tuccumi said there was an increase in the number visitors to this year’s Hornbill Festival. Last year, he said, the inflow was drastically affected by demonetisation. However, he expressed delight at the spike in the number of visitors.
Last year, the total was 234113 visitors. The inflow of foreign tourists has also shown an increase in comparison to last year’s figure of 1144.
