Top 10 best-selling SUVs in India right now

Maruti Suzuki dominated the sales chart with 6 cars in the best-selling list for July 2022, according to the sales figures released by automakers in India.

However, Maruti Suzuki’s SUV lineup has not generated numbers like its other products did and the sole Maruti car to make it into the top ten list is the Brezza sub-compact SUV. On the other hand, Korean carmakers, Kia and Hyundai, have both posted strong sales with four of their SUV offerings making it to the top ten list.

Despite the strong performance by the Korean companies, the Tata Nexon is hands down the best-selling SUV in India and it has been holding the top position for the past few months. Mahindra and Mahindra saw only two models in the top ten list.

Here are the best-selling SUVs in India

Tata Nexon

Tata’s Nexon is the best-selling SUV in India and has garnered a commanding lead in sales numbers for the past few months. The sub-4-meter SUV recorded 14,214 units sold in July 2022 alone. The company’s electric version, the Nexon EV, is also the best-selling electric SUV in the country.

Hyundai Creta

Korean automaker, Hyundai, has seen positive sales for its flagship Creta SUV with 12,625 units sold in July 2022. The mid-size SUV is among the most popular cars in its segment.

Hyundai Venue

Another SUV from Hyundai that made it to the best-selling list is the Hyundai Venue. The Venue SUV got a facelift in 2022 and the new variant has attracted a lot of buyers which helped its sales go up by 47 per cent. The company sold 12,000 units in July 2022 as compared to 10,321 units for the older generation Venue in June 2022.

Tata Punch

Tata’s smallest SUV offering saw positive response from the Indian market. Tata Motors sold 11,007 Tata Punch SUVs in July 2022 despite competition from the newer Citreon C3.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Maruti Suzuki failed to dominate the SUV market like it did in other segments, however, the company’s Vitara Brezza is still a popular choice among SUV customers in the country. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 9,700 units of the new Brezza SUV in July 2022. The sales number could go up in the next few months with reports suggesting that the company has recieved more than 75,000 bookings for the SUV.

Kia Seltos

Kia is another Korean automaker that is making waves in the Indian SUV segment. The company sold 8,541 units of its flagship SUV Seltos in July 2022, making it its best-selling model in the country.

Mahindra Bolero

Mahindra’s Bolero SUV has been among the most popular SUVs in India for a few years now. Despite the company offering a host of new SUV models like the Thar and Scorpio-N, the Bolero has consistently garnered more sales. The company sold 7,917 units of Bolero in July 2022.

Kia Sonet

The Kia Sonet has failed to make an impression in the Indian sub-compact SUV segment. Two years since its launch, the Sonet has seen sales decline considerably and the company managed to sell only 7,215 units in July 2022.

Toyota Urban Cruiser

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser is a new entrant into the top ten best-selling list. Launched as the technical cousin to Maruti’s Vitara Brezza, the company sold 6,274 units in July 2022.

Mahindra XUV700

Despite being the most popular SUV in the segment, the Mahindra XUV700 has been plagued by supply chain issues. It has the longest waiting list among all the SUVs. The company sold 6,277 units last month but if the company can sort out the supply challenges, the XUV700 could easily leapfrog to the top of this list.
