Tohanba urges central aid to boost State economy

Dimapur, June 10: Parliamentary Secretary of Municipal Affairs, Economics and Statistics, R Tohanba, apprised the Union minister of State for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Babul Supriyo, to revise and upgrade the Kohima Smart City Plan and also urged to consider other schemes and proposals submitted to the Ministry so that Nagaland State could also boost the State economy and have better infrastructure.

Tohanba made the appeal during his meeting with the Union minister in the latter’s official residence in New Delhi on June 9. Tohanba apprised the Union Minister of State about the Kohima Smart City proposal and explained some of the points raised by the Ministry of Urban Development, GOI, to revise and upgrade the Kohima Smart City Plan. He also said that Kohima Municipal Council should not be equated with other Municipality of main land India whose revenues are high. He urged the Union Minister of State to consider other schemes and proposals submitted to the Ministry so that Nagaland State could also boost the State economy and have better infrastructure.

He was accompanied by Er. Toba Angami, EE Municipal Affairs; Sanjay Pandey, OSD, Municipal Affairs; and Thomas Thailu, OSD, Planning & Co-ordination.

Earlier, State chief minister and the Parliamentary Secretary along with department officials called on the consultants of Smart City at Nagaland House, Delhi, and urged to fulfill all the criteria raised by MoUD and strengthen the Kohima Smart City Plan for submission in the 2nd round of competition.

The revised and upgraded proposal would be submitted by June 30.
