Tizit Area Students’ Union condemns killing of civilians by Indian armed forces
Dimapur, Dec. 8 (EMN): The Tizit Area Students’ Union condemned the killing of 13 innocent coal miners at Oting in Tizit sub-division by the 21 para commandos on December 4 and killing of one more civilian by the 27 Assam Rifles during a protest on the following day.
In a statement, the student body clarified that the location of the ambush is just a few kilometre away from Assam and not in Indo-Myanmar border as reported by a section of the media.
It rubbished the statement of the Indian Army about the incident as a case of “mistaken identity”, claiming that “it was a pre-meditated plan”. It also condemned Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in the Parliament and Retd. Major Gaurav Arya’s claim that army personnel fired the civilians in self defense.
The organisations asked the Commanding Officers of Indian armed forces stationed in Tizit jurisdiction to refrain from movement or patrolling during the seven days of mourning period within Tizit jurisdiction.
It also asked the government of India to repeal the AFSPA from the Northeast and the state government to deliver justice through impartial and swift probe by the SIT.
While expressing the gratitude to various tribal bodies and right thinking individuals for the support during the time of grief, it sought their continual support until justice is delivered.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayers for speedy recovery of those injured,” it added.
