Thunderstorms, gusty winds forecast for Nagaland, NE states
DIMAPUR — Widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is expected in Nagaland over the next five days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday.
This pattern is also anticipated for other northeastern states, including Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on May 20 and 21, it said.
The IMD’s district-wise data for Nagaland indicates that on May 21, Wokha, Dimapur, Longleng, Zunheboto and Phek districts are likely to experience thunderstorm and lightning, while Mon, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Kohima, Kiphire and Peren districts are likely to experience thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by strong winds.
On May 22, the districts of Mon, Dimapur, and Phek will experience thunderstorms and lightning, while Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Wokha, Kohima, Peren, and Kiphire districts will experience thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong surface winds.
Thunderstorms and lightning are predicted in Tuensang, Wokha, Kiphire, Phek, Kohima, Peren, and Dimapur on May 23, and Tuensang, Kiphire, Kohima, Phek, Peren, and Dimapur on May 24, the IMD said.
