IMPHAL, March 11
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t least three persons were killed while more than twenty others including women sustained injury when a powerful bomb suspected to be IED exploded in busy market area of Imphal town this evening.
The incident took place near a dust bin located close to a tea vendor at the temporary women market shed in Imphal when everyone is packing up to close the market for the day around 6.20 pm this evening, police sources said. One person was killed at the sport while two others succumbed to the injuries on way to RIMS hospital here, sources added.Identities of the deceased persons and injured ones are yet to be established till the report goes to the press.The reason behind the explosion could not be established immediately as none of the armed group operating in the state claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
Meanwhile DGP Manipur Saheed Ahmed and Inspector General of Police(Law & Order)Clay Khongsai accompanied by the Superintendent of Police Imphal West district AK Jhaljit rushed to the incident site and later to RIMS casualty ward to oversee the situation.
Wednesday’s bomb explosion took place just 20 days after an IED blast near the busy women market in Imphal on February 18 wherein five persons including three police personnel and two women were injured.
