Three IRBs and 2 VDFs involved in various crimes arrested

A team of Imphal East police commando had arrested a hardcore member of CORCOM on May 16 from Paona Bazar. On interrogation, he gave leads for the arrest of three IRB personnel and two VDFs who were involved in various militant and criminal activities in Imphal area.The commando team arrested Md Atao Rahman (35) of Lilong Chingkham Mamang Tamya Shumang and identified him as a hardcore member of CORCOM in a combing operation conducted at Paona Bazar on May 16. He was arrested with many weapons and bombs.
The police team interrogated him and had a deeper investigation on the matter. He disclosed some valuable information to the investigation team, after which the team succeeded in arresting three IRBs and two VDFs.
According to a source received by our agency, on disclosure by Atao Rahman, a combined team of Imphal West Commando, Thoubal Commando and 40th Assam Rifles arrested one IRB personal from 4th IRB and another two personnel from 5th IRB.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Manipur Police PRO said that the arrested Atao Rahman was involved in bomb threats and planning of IEDs in various motor vehicle dealer shops and offices in and around Imphal area. On his disclosure, the combined also succeeded in seizure of two Chinese handgrenades, two detonators, two batteries and one remote control device from the courtyard of Dontain English School of Lilong Chingkham. Interrogating Atao further led to the seizure of a rocket launcher with highly explosive device from the Imam’s room house of a mosque in the same locality.
Meanwhile, District Police Commando conducted a search operation yesterday afternoon at Ngari Galli, Imphal and another at Kasturi area of Thangal Bazar. Police took up 11 persons without proper Ids for further verification.
