The Assam Rifles have arrested a number of persons including one said to be a cadre of the NSCN (K) from Dimapur following attempts to extort from a hotel owner on behalf of the underground faction. The Assam Rifles issued a press release on Tuesday informing of the event. However, the press release did not specify of the identities of the persons shown in the accompanying photograph.
Personnel of the 32nd Assam Rifles under the aegis of headquarter-6 sector conducted an operation leading to the capture of three key functionaries of the NSCN (K) faction, the army said.
One of the apprehended persons were identified as one A Kaghoto Asumi, brother of ‘Max Asumi,’ “finance in-charge of NSCN (K)” for Dimapur, who was earlier apprehended by the security forces, the press release said.
“The individuals were apprehended from Eros Line, Dimapur along with a weapon and tax collection receipts.
The individuals were planning to extort an amount of Rs. 1 lakh from a hotel owner on behalf of NSCN (K) when they were apprehended from a Black Rio car bearing registration No NL 07C 3080,” the press release said.
The apprehended persons and recovered items were handed over to East Police Station in Dimapur, the security force said.
