A day after the hullabaloo at Congress Bhavan Kohima by disgruntled party workers over disqualification petition of 8 Congress MLAs in the presence of AICC general secretary and in-charge of northeast, V. Narayanasamy, NPCC president K Therie today expressed disappointment that the ‘chief guest’ and ‘honoured guest’ were charged, disrespected and humiliated in Nagaland with unparliamentarily words.
“Life is too long when we are in awkward situation, life is too short when we enjoy,” Therie said. While making a clarification in response to request for withdrawal of disqualification petition, he said, “I have received letters from ACCC demanding withdrawal of disqualification petition and reviewed it with Gen Secy and Secy AICC.”
“In this matter, Gen Secy AICC has made clear once again on 24/9/2015 in the meeting; he said, that the only condition was; it should be minus BJP. Congress President has made clear to former President NPCC and CLP leader in presence of Gen Secy AICC that there is no objection to support and participate in the Govt provided BJP is not there. Gen Secretary and Secy AICC have further explained that they have no objection to support TR Zeliang or Neiphiu Rio group, the only condition was it should be minus BJP,” Therie in a statement issued today said.
“Honourable Vice President AICC, Rahul Gandhi’s name was dragged in the discussion. The delegate who met him have assured that political solution is coming very soon and during this period, they requested to keep the matter pending. VP AICC called Gen Secy AICC and have asked him to wait till 31st August 2015. In between on 3rd August, the Naga peace accord was signed though the content was never made public till date. Further ceasefire abrogation between NSCN (K) and GoI turned out differently.”
Therie said that he would be happy to withdraw disqualification petition, provided AICC issue directives.
NPCC president said, “As Congress men and women, we are all part of INC party and we are bound to abide by the decision and directive of All India Congress Committee in matters of disciplinary action in respect of AICC Members, MLAs and MPs. In this matter, the Executive Committee of NPCC has resolved on 26th June 2015, that, we shall abide by the decision and directive of AICC in matters of 8 MLAs disciplinary action. The said resolution was released to press again on 16th July 2015. The petition was settled by AICC and have authorised Secy AICC and President NPCC to sign the petition on behalf of AICC. Abiding by the decision and directive of the AICC, I have signed obediently.”
He said, “Granting Rs.712 cr for RoP in 2012 was taken as crime against the people of Nagaland. Gen Secy AICC Shri V Narayanasamy was that time MoS attached to PM. He said, giving him credit was good, but it would be wrong to accept and said 712 crore was given by Union Ministry of Finance and not him. However, instead of being grateful for the generous grant, friends have shown a banner as if he has committed crime against our people.” Stating that Congress has always shown matured leadership in the past, Therie said, there is no issue that could not be resolved through discussion.
“The only issue here is, that, the Congress ideology and principle of secularism cannot be compromised with communal ideology and principle of RSS-BJP. If only this point could be digested, the issue would be resolved. This is the point of division drawing the line between Congress and BJP.”
“They allege us as pro-BJP, while they are hand glove with BJP in the government for all purpose. God is the witness that I have ever spoken to any one that I wish to join BJP. As an apolitical student, I do not accept the ideology of fascism which Keshav Baliram Hedgewar the founder of RSS has adopted,” Therie said.
