Thejano Makritsu wins natl award in farming

Kohima, July 21 (EMN): Thejano Makritsu from Seithekiema ‘A’ in Dimapur district has been conferred with the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Krishi Puruskar (National & Zonal) 2016-17at the 89th foundation day and award ceremony held at AP Shinde Symposium Hall, New Delhi, on July 16.
She was awarded with a citation and a cash of Rs 50,000 presented by the Union Minister of Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh, in recognition of her contributions towards farming for a sustainable development and growth.

Talking to Eastern Mirror, Makritsu said she has been into farming for the last four years rearing chickens and cultivating lemon, maize and pineapple with the help of ICAR Jharnapani in Seithekiema ‘A.’
She acknowledged ICAR Jharnapani for continuously helping her throughout her journey in farming and recommending her for the most prestigious award.
It may be mentioned that the award is instituted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, which is given away annually in recognition of the contributions of marginal, small and landless farmers for developing sustainable integrated models of farming both at the national and zonal level.
At the national level, there is one award comprising of Rs 1,00,000 and award certificate to be given annually. At zonal level there are total eleven awards: one for each zone of ATARIs comprising of Rs 50,000, whereby the nominating authority may put on record a clear cut recommendation highlighting the contributions made by the nominee and giving full justification for the nomination.
