DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 27
Members of a sanctuary for the elderly, the Tribal Old Age Care Centre located near DC Court in Dimapur, celebrated the first anniversary on Sunday. Chairman of Nagaland State Commission for Women, Dr. Temsula Ao, was the special guest for the event and KABA’s missionary, Charemnaro Pongener was the speaker.
The institution aims to cater to the needs for care of modern senior citizens. Tribal Old Age Care Centre is affiliated to Ebenezer Welfare Society, a registered nongovernmental organization. The institution was established on September 29, 2014 with motto ‘Service, witness and love.’In her address, Dr. Temsula Ao said she was impressed by the services being rendered by the Tribal Old Age Care Centre to the elderly. Everyone should come forward and share the responsibilities, she said.
While lauding the uniqueness of the center, Dr. Ao said that the spiritual services offered at the centre in trying to bring the seniors closer to God was a ‘solace for the homers who are spending their last days of life with the joy of knowing God.’
She urged all to ‘open their hearts, minds’ towards people who are members of marginalized sections of the society such as school dropouts, drug addicts, as well. By working together, there can be opportunities to find solutions to problems, she said.
Currently, the institution is taking care of 18 elderly citizens. Eight are women and 10 are men. The oldest is said to be a 99 year old man.
