Thanksgiving event held for unopposed NDPP candidate in Kohima
KOHIMA — A thanksgiving programme was held at the residence of Avilie Rio, a Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate who was elected unopposed from ward 2 (Bayavü) of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on Monday at Upper Bayavü in Kohima.
The newly elected councillor outlined his vision for the development of the ward on the occasion, stating his commitment to fulfilling assignments and achieving set goals. He affirmed his dedication and sincerity in working closely with the citizens of the ward.
He emphasised his priority to establish a ward service centre aimed at facilitating payments for utilities such as electricity and water bills, residential certificates, and other schemes and amenities for the residents of the ward. Rio also pledged to install street lights and CCTV cameras to enhance the safety and security of citizens, in addition to improving footpaths, drainage systems, and sanitation facilities.
Dr. Niephrezo Keditsu, Advisor to Chief Minister and chairman of the Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Board (NKVIB), and Prasielie Pienyü, president of the NDPP Kohima region and chairman of NHHDCL, also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
Khinyi Woch, Chairman of Bayavü Area Panchayat, highlighted that Bayavü area, with a population of approximately 7,000 residents across three sectors, stands out as one of the most peaceful wards. It accommodates residents from various tribes and communities. He noted that around 60% of the land is government-owned.
Woch appealed for development in several key areas, including the establishment of a police beat post, improving drainage systems, upgrading transformers, replacing electrical poles, and installing street lighting. He also highlighted the urgency of addressing the water crisis in the area. Additionally, Woch emphasised the necessity of creating a recreational centre that doubles as a children’s park in Bayavü, designed to cater to both the elderly and children alike.
Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, local MLA and Advisor for School Education and SCERT, expressed optimism that the NDPP would achieve success across all 19 wards of the Kohima Municipal Council.
