DIMAPUR — Educational institutions in Nagaland observed National Anti-Ragging Day on Monday to raise awareness, provide support, and foster a culture of respect and safety.

TGOUN: The Global Open University Nagaland (TGOUN), commemorating the day, said in a press release that the initiative was taken to curb the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions. The university is also observing Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to the 18th.

Speaking at the event, Abhishek Tripathi, assistant registrar of TGOUN, emphasised that ragging not only violates the rights of the individual but also disrupts the academic environment. He mentioned that collective responsibility plays a crucial role in eradicating this menace.

Also, in an effort to foster academic excellence and encourage intellectual engagement among students, the university organised an essay writing competition on the theme ‘The menace of ragging in educational institutes’.

The winners of the competition were Katijungla Jamir (first position), Imnanaro Pongen (second), and Loinoto (third).

ICFAI University: ICFAI University Nagaland is observing Anti-Ragging Week and, as part of this, marked National Anti-Ragging Day on Monday by organising an essay competition on the university premises.

The essay topic for undergraduate students was ‘Ragging–a deplorable practice that harms unity, wellbeing, and personal growth,’ while for postgraduate students it was ‘Role of senior students in creating a ragging-free campus,’ the university informed in an update.

“Ragging is a social evil that hampers the lives of students in different aspects. The university aims to create awareness among the students by organising a series of programmes highlighting the issue of ragging,” it stated.
