THE education scam once again came to haunt the state after the teachers whose marks were allegedly altered and thereafter terminated, raising strong objections to the government’s move to hold examinations to the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) despite the matter being sub-judice. The terminated teachers of Dadenggre sub division further questioned the continued service of some contractual teachers, who they said were beneficiaries of the mark alteration.
The aggrieved terminated teachers who had approached the apex Court for redressal of their grievances as well as to regain employment as teachers have questioned the government’s decision stating that until their case is completed no further eligibility examinations to teaching posts should be held.
The teachers whose marks were allegedly tampered were terminated on the February 28, 2014. Fresh appointments to the posts were stopped after the case was taken up by the Supreme Court. The matter has been stalled since.
The education scam put quite a few senior politicians of the present government in the dock after their role in the scam was unearthed by the CBI. The state government however has been dragging its feet in the case as persecution of the politicians named is a distant thought.
“We did not alter marks on our own and had no hand in making any of the changes of even in gaining employment, so why are we the only ones getting the wrong end of the stick in this? The people who were responsible for the tampering of marks should be held accountable and action taken against as per the law. However, we are the only ones being punished when in fact we did not have any hand in tampering of marks of scores”, said a group of teachers from the sub division.
“This is playing with our lives. We have been tossed around from one side to the other. We have listened to the government and withdrawn the case from the High Court after verbal assurances from the government of ensuring we did not suffer. The government however has played with our careers besides leaving us in the lurch and it has made life more difficult for all of us (who were terminated) extremely difficult. We now find it difficult to even maintain our families”, said one of the terminated teachers on the condition of anonymity.
