Kohima police authorities on August 13 last arrested one local taxi driver, 46-year-old Limakumzuk, on charges of molesting a passenger on the way from Dimapur to Kohima. The vehicle, “used for commission of crime”, has also been seized.
A press statement from Kohima police on Friday narrated that the incident occurred on August 11 last when the victim, along with three other passengers, took the taxi to Kohima. According to police, the victim was seated in the front.
“The driver was initially friendly to all of them as reported and they took off the journey from Dimapur to Kohima. During the journey, he came to know that, both the victim and driver were from the same community and started talking about his family, education, works etc” the statement said.
After crossing Chumukedima police check gate, the driver reportedly started molesting the girl. “At first the victim thought he did it unknowingly. But he continued with the same act and the victim realized his intention and the victim asked him to take off his hand and warned him.”
Reportedly, the driver continued to touch her despite her warning even as the victim appealed her fellow passengers for help but to no avail. This continued till Zubza, according to police. An FIR was lodged against the taxi driver on August 13 after which he was promptly arrested. A case has been registered against the same at Sechu (Zubza) police station.
