Tata Trusts will explore possibilities to set up industries in Tripura using local natural resources, chairman Ratan Tata said today.
“I was impressed by the hospitality of the state government. I have assured it how we can create industries by using the local natural resources. See, what we can bring to Tripura,” Tata told reporters.
He said there were natural gas and other local resources whose potential would be explored to set up industries in Tripura without taking the resources from the state to other places.
“I will come back. Our partnership with the state government will bring development and prosperity in the state,” he said. Earlier, the Tripura government and Tata Trusts signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for undertaking various programmes in sectors like education, health and farming among others.
The MoU was signed by Tripura Principal Secretary K Rajeshwar Rao and Executive Trustee of Tata Trusts R Venkataramanan.
The initiative aims to implement interventions in thematic areas of dairy development, fisheries, skill development, education, nutrition and health for improvement in the quality of life of the state’s people.
The agreement would provide technological knowhow to two industrial training institutes in West Tripura and Dhalai districts, set up a dairy farm at Ambassa and augment fish production in the state, Tata Trusts officials said.
The state government will facilitate support to the Trusts by funding various activities through its schemes in animal husbandry, fisheries, watershed and tribal area development, border area development programme, skill development, education and health, they said.
For comprehensive micronutrient and healthcare programme, the government will facilitate support from departments like women and child development, health, social welfare and food and civil supplies, the officials added.
