Sumi community inaugurates cemetery in Kohima

Kohima, June 11 (EMN): Nagaland Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Y Kikheto Sema, inaugurated a new Sumi cemetery in Kohima at Keyake (BSF Camp) Colony on Saturday.
Mentioning that Nagas and the Christians alike give importance to graveyards, Kikheto Sema stated that the state’s former chief minister, KL Chishi and family, donated the land to Kohima Sumi Hoho (KSH) to fulfill the burning desire of the people. He has acknowledged the magnanimity of the P Khel of the Kohima village for allowing them to set up the cemetery within their jurisdiction.
He further commended the leadership of KSH president, Khevito T Shohe, and his team for making the project a success.
Delivering the presidential address, Khevito T Shohe informed that the newly constructed cemetery has 165 chambers and added that over INR 1 crore was used for its construction. He stated that services of two civil engineers namely Viwoka Zhimo and Saku Keyho along with one lady architect, Vinika Swu, was sought for technical help to give modern touch.
A handout issued by KSH stated that the work was supervised by Akheto Achumi, KSH secretary (cemetery). It added that one full time chowkidar has been employed with proper accommodation facilities near the cemetery.
A speech was also delivered by Kelhousetuo Rutsa, Kohima Village P Khel Council Chairman.
The dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. G Kiyeto Sema, pastor of SABCK, while the programme was chaired by Vixepu Swu, KSH vice president, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Shiyito Wotsa, KSH general secretary.
