Dimapur, Oct. 12 (EMN): The office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Kohima, along with district health society and officials of Health and Family Welfare department held a launching programme of SUMAN at UPHC Seikhazou on October 11.
The programme, under the aegis of National Health Mission, was launched by the NHM mission director, Dr. Thorhüsie Katiry, an update informed.
DPO (RMNCHA+N), Dr. Rupert Peseyie, in his introduction, stated that Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan Scheme (SUMAN) is an initiative of the central government for zero preventable maternal and newborn death.
It mentioned that through SUMAN scheme, the central government was committed to achieve the target of reducing maternal and infant mortality. The programme provides affordable and quality healthcare solution to pregnant women and newborns who receive zero expenses access up to six months after delivery, he informed.
Dr. Katiry stated that SUMAN, in context with zero preventable services for mother and child, should have the maximal outcome. He also stated that healthcare provider should be prompt in performing his/her duties with sincerity as the initiative focused on assured delivery of maternal and newborn healthcare services encompassing wider access to free and quality services, zero tolerance for denial of services, assured management of complications along with respect for women’s autonomy, dignity, feelings, choices and preferences.
The joint secretary of Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Sawmi Leyri, urged the department to be proactive in monitoring and supervising as SUMAN scheme should directly benefit the beneficiary with fruitful outcome. The programme was chaired by CMO, Dr. Tumchobeni, while the vote of thanks was delivered by the deputy CMO, Dr. Imchatoshi.
