DIMAPUR — The success of the North East Games which is a collective achievement of all citizens of Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said on Sunday.
The games, which were hosted by Nagaland from March 18 to the 23rd, have not only enhanced the foundations of sports development in the North East but also strengthened the bonds of unity and oneness amongst all eight states, Rio said in a statement. This, he said, exemplifies the motto of the Nagaland Olympic Association, which is ‘Stronger Together.’
Acknowledging the efforts of various organisations and individuals, the chief minister congratulated all the athletes, particularly the Nagaland contingent who finished in the 1st runner-up position with, “our best ever performance and highest medal haul.”
He said that the positive feedback on the overall organisation of the games clearly indicated that the games have been a huge success from all angles and lauded the state sports associations, national federations, technical officials, volunteers, and the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for carrying out their responsibilities in a successful manner.
Appreciation was also extended to the state Olympic associations of participating states and the North East Sports Association (NESA) for their support and solidarity as well as dignitaries, including the President of India, the Prime Minister, and the union minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, for their messages of solidarity.
Local communities and leaders, churches, civil societies, NGOs, and believers were acknowledged for their positive cooperation and assistance, especially in areas where the games were held.
“Our appreciation goes to the efficient and professional team of the Nagaland Olympic Association, under your exemplary leadership, all of who have worked tirelessly for months and weeks to ensure that every aspect of the games was held in a smooth manner,” he added.
