Students told to take pledge for uplift of community

Kohima, Jan 28 (EMN): The 50th anniversary celebration of Kohima Lotha Students’ Union (KLSU) got underway on Friday at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, on the theme ‘Charting common future.’

Addressing the introductory service as special guest, Advisor of Information Technical, Science and Technology, New and Renewable Energy, Mmhonlumo Kikon, urged the gathering to take pledge during the golden jubilee celebration, to make commitment to be united and uplift the community.

While pointing out the issues faced by the Lotha community, he called upon the members to review one’s thinking and work together for the Lotha common issues.

Stating that the younger generations would inherit the problems if not addressed, he stressed on the need to have a creative thinking conducive for the masses.

Meanwhile, he also asserted that without discipline and cultivating good behavior, one would not achieve success in life.

In his exhortation, MLA Dr. Chumben Murry expounded on Retrospect, Introspect and Prospect (RIP) to secure a better future. He pointed out the various stages of transformation that human civilisation have undergone to an extent of now being in a global village and urged upon the members to ponder if they’re on the pace with the change.

Stating that the society is still nascent and malleable, he called upon the gathering to celebrate the golden jubilee by pondering on what would be good for the society. He urged the students to learn and study till higher level of education to enable them start seeing things in different perspectives.

Murry also urged upon the members to be ethical in all their dealings, have a sense of respect for laws and rules, respect for rights of other citizens, be work loving as it shapes oneself, strive to have a sense for saving and investment, a will to experience, and being punctual.

He further stressed on the importance of speaking and learning one’s own language stating that it is one’s identity. He also urged the student community to have the zeal to compete in the competitive exams.

On the occasion, mementos and souvenir were dedicated and released, while songs were presented by the Lotha students of Kohima Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma, and St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama.
