KOHIMA — With the emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools becoming the most important thing in people’s life today, Kekuneil Ltu, Scientist ‘B’ at the Directorate of Science and Technology, urged the students to focus on scientific research for development of the society.

He stated this during the state-level science fair (seminar and exhibition) 2024, organised by the Directorate of School Education and Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, at Mt. Tabor Retreat Centre in Kohima on Thursday.

Speaking on the theme ‘Science and technology for society,’ Ltu encouraged the students to cultivate ‘curiosity,’ which according to him is the fundamental of research.

“Every research starts with problems and issues facing the society. This is followed by identifying the cause and the job of science is find solution to those challenges,” he said.

Pointing out the rich bio resources and indigenous traditional knowledge system of Nagaland, he urged the student to converge those resources into science.

Mentioning that researchers from outside the state are interested to do research in those areas, he encouraged the Naga people to come out and do research themselves about their own state.

He also suggested students go back to villages and learn about traditional knowledge system and converge science with those knowledge saying that AI is going to be a big thing in few years time.

The additional secretary of School Education and SCERT, T Yanpvuthung Kikon, acknowledged that advancement in science and technology has made everything possible.

As the society has great expectations on students to become great innovators in the future, he advised them to be consistent and persuasive in their approach even in the face of discouragement till they achieved success.

The science fair and exhibitions brought students together in displaying innovative projects on various topics. They included landslides detector, traffic flow model, self sustainable natural farming, automatic dry and wet waste segregation, solid waste management, waste to energy, zabo system of cultivation, automatic fire extinguisher, transport and communication, smart city, disaster management etc.
