Students in Dimapur compete to promote election awareness
DIMAPUR — An event themed ‘Sports for votes’ was conducted as part of a Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme at St. John College, Dimapur, on August 16 and 17, and at Dimapur Government College on August 19 and 20.
This was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Office, Dimapur, in collaboration with the Nagaland Sports Association, according to a DIPR report.
Over 600 students from both colleges participated in the event, which aimed to promote electoral awareness among young voters. The sports activities were led by Christine Imlikokla, president of the Nagaland Sports Association.
The students competed in the EPIC (Electoral Participation and Inclusive Citizenship) tournament, engaging in various games such as futsal, tug of war, three-legged race, and sack race.
In addition to the sports activities, voter facilitation booths and EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) demonstration centres were set up to assist and educate the students about the voting process.
Zakabo V Rotokha, ADC and SVEEP nodal officer, Dimapur, stated that the sports event highlighted the importance of voter education and fostered a sense of civic responsibility among the students.
