Faculty and students of Model Christian College following the students’ development programme at the college premises in Kohima on October 19.

DIMAPUR — Model Christian College (MCC) in Kohima conducted a students’ development programme on October 19 at the college auditorium, focusing on ‘physical, mental and spiritual health’.

Dr. Bilva Yalie, MO, UPHC, Seikhazou, and state master trainer for adolescent health, was the resource person, according to an update. The session was divided into parts, each focusing on a specific aspect of the topic, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Dr. Bilva, during the first part, highlighted the importance of physical health. She advised the students to lead a healthy lifestyle by eating well and engaging in physical activity. She elaborated on the factors influencing nutrition, common manifestations of malnutrition, and the five risk factors for non-communicable diseases.

The second focus was on mental health, where the speaker addressed mental health issues and introduced the audience to healthy morals that can help them cope with these challenges. She also identified common mental health disorders, such as eating disorders, learning disorders, and substance abuse.

Focus was also placed on the issues of substance abuse. She elaborated on the factors that increase the risk of substance abuse and those that can protect adolescents from it.

The final discussion focused on internet and media usage. She highlighted the need for young adults to be aware of and vigilant against cybercrime and bullying.
