Dimapur, April 10 (EMN): Peace Club of St. Clare Higher Secondary School Kacharigaon observed Earth day cum capacity building on peace building on theme “Peace building through preservation of environment.”
Speaking on the occasion, Suzane Kulnu exhorted the youth to be the messenger of peace in the conflict situations, in the families, institutions and society at large.
Emphasising on the importance of Earth Day, she said the day is all about appreciating the uniqueness of the planet earth with its incredible biodiversity and to commemorate the day, various national and international activities are conducted to understand the biodiversity and how should we protect our nature – plants, animals and environment. She also added that it is a day to educate people on the environmental, health, security and economic impacts of climate change and the opportunities and benefits that open up in the new green economy.
She further shared some practical tips such as housekeeping, to tackle the issue of water pollution and its effective management, preserving and protecting the environment etc. She concluded her speech with a pledge to honour and respect the creations through words and deeds and examples to protect and cherish the mother earth.
Patrick. W. Tungoe, staff of Peace Channel highlighted the role of the students as an agent for building and promoting peace. He challenge the students to be a channel of peace in their own locality and community and take peace as their life mission in transforming the culture of violence to culture of peace without waiting for the political and social leaders. Quoting Gandhi’s saying, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” he urged the students to bring positive changes in their lives.
Speaking ontopic ‘self discovery,’ Alan Paul said to succeed in life one need to know and understand one’s strengths and weaknesses. Self discovery is the first step to the ladder of success, he added.
