STRY on high value floriculture held in Tesophenyu village
DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Tseminyu organised a programme under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) from Aug. 12 to the 17th in Tesophenyu village, Tseminyu district.
The training, on the theme ‘High value floriculture,’ was conducted in association with the State Agricultural Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, an update stated
In her key note address, block technology manager (ATMA), Khatemenla stated that the training was aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas in agriculture and allied areas, to provide employment in rural areas and creation of skilled manpower to perform farm and non-farm operations.
The youths were also made aware of the prospects of floriculture in Nagaland and the demand of cut flowers throughout the year.
Hands-on demonstration on ‘Production technology of sunflower’ was conducted by resource person Kebegi Kent, ATM.
Assistant technology manager, Sinlo Khing, also trained the participants on production technology of stock flower. Organic management of diseases and pests was demonstrated by Chenobu Seb, ATM.
On the concluding day, starter kits containing seeds, germination trays, coco peat and organic fertiliser mix were distributed to the participants for starting their own cut flower cultivation.
The training programme was attended by fifteen youths and certificates were awarded to all of them.
