Status Quo, Head Hunters, Nagaland Police & NRYO surge in quarter-finals

Status Quo Football Club, Head Hunters, Nagaland Police and New Reserve Youth Organisation (NRYO) surged in quarter-finals beating respective rivals on the first day of the pre-quarter final matches of the ongoing 20th Classic Cup 2014 at Kohima Local Ground.
Former champions, Nagaland Police beat Brotherly Club 6-0
Former champions, Nagaland Police living upto its fame thrashed Brotherly Club by six goals to nil in the third pre-quarter final match played today.
It was Lima opening the flood-gates for the uniformed personnel which was followed by Lipok finding the second the second, while Nandal Bonang increased the margin to three before the half-time. In the breather half, it was Saku finding his first and fourth goal for the team.
Lipok added his second and fifth for the cops while Saku sealed the score board with his second and sixth.
Earlier, in the first match of the Round of 16, Status Quo FC defeated 4th NAP Thizama by 5-3 via tie-breaker as the teams were locked in a goalless draw during the stipulated 70 minutes play.
In a close shave second match, Head Hunters defeated Mele FC by a solitary goal scored by Lemwang in the first half.
It was tough third match as New Reserve Youth Organisation beat Tiema Khe, Kidima 5-3 via tie-break as the teams were locked in 1-1 draw during the scheduled match timing.
NRYO took the lead in the first half through Enos Ayemi but they failed to maintain it with Tiema Khe managing the much need equalizer through Kevisekho Thokhwe after the lemon break to end the 70 minute duration in 1-1 draw.
However, penalty shoot-out favoured NRYO as they managed to all five shots while Tiema Khe converted only three.
Winners of today’s matches will be clashing in the quarter-final matches on September 1 as follows: Nagaland Police vs New Reserve Youth Organisation and Head Hunters vs Status Quo FC.
