State govt to amend selection process: ANCSU

Kohima, May 11 : The State government is said to have assured the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) on Wednesday that necessary amendments will be initiated for selection of candidates for technical and other allied courses under general category and NEC reserved seats allotted to Nagaland state with the cabinet approval. In a release today, ANCSU president Zhoku Thuluo and general secretary Benjong Longchar stated that this was the outcome of a discussion between the ANCSU and state government representatives regarding the system of distribution of seats for various technical courses. The meeting was held on May 11 at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall, Kohima and the state government was represented by the Chief Secretary, Secretary Higher and Technical Education (HTE), additional secretary HTE and director Technical Education, the release stated.

Following a lengthy discussion, the officials are said to have assured the student body that seats allotted to Nagaland state by the North Eastern Council (NEC) shall be distributed only to indigenous inhabitants of the state and not to non-locals.

 


“In reference to the government notification for General Category for selection of candidates under state reserved seats, the ANCSU pointed out that the children of state government employees, All India Services borne on Nagaland cadre, will be eligible for appearing the exam only if the parents of the children are posted and residing in Nagaland for atleast 3 years prior to examination, and provided the candidate must pass out of Class 10/10+2 for diploma courses and professional courses respectively, from a recognized institution from within the Nagaland state,” ANCSU stated.

The ANCSU also pointed out that the children of state government employees, All India Services of Nagaland cadre shall be eligible to appear for general category only after fulfilment of the criteria. The union stated that the government officials had then assured that the demands made by ANCSU will be initiated for necessary amendments with the cabinet approval.

Meanwhile, ANCSU has extended gratitude to all the civil societies, student organisations, parents, students and concerned citizens for their support and cooperation during the process of its activities.
