Dimapur, June 30 (EMN): A new St. Peter’s Convent was blessed and inaugurated on June 29, at Tesophenynu by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, in the presence of Priests and Sisters, public lleaders, teachers, parents, students, other invited guests and well-wishers.
The day coincided with the Church feast under the patronage of St. Peter. Bishop James celebrated the Holy Eucharist at St. Peter’s Church, with 7 priests as concelebrants and the faithful.
During the programme, Bishop highlighted the personalities of Saints Paul and Peter to draw the significance of the feast. He said that, Saints Paul and Peter were the two leaders who guided the early Church. St. Peter with the mandate given by Christ led the Church as the first Pope. He kept the Church united which was growing rapidly in the years following the Pentecost. St. Paul preached to the Non-Jews to give Jesus to them. These two saints kept the church united and strong in faith, he stated.
While blessing the newly built convent at St. Peter’s Centre Tesophenynu, the Bishop called upon the gathering to be grateful for the generosity of people who sacrificed their comfort to make the convent building. He thanked Frs. Joy, Manoj, George Punnolil, Jose Sebastian and Binoyfor their committed contribution in completion of the building. He also appreciated the interest and cooperation the area leaders and community put in for the developmental work in the center. He commended on the sacrifice made by the Sisters in the diocese. He urged the community to take good care of the Sisters for the selfless service they render.
Rev. Sr. Sibia SABS, the provincial superior, cut the ribbon and inaugurated the building. In her speech she thanked the Bishop, Fathers, Sisters and the community members for their role in making the convent building a reality.
Earlier, Fr. Manoj, the centre in-charge, accorded the words of welcome and wished the community happy feast and blessings. Representatives from various other Catholic communities and churches also attended the function.
