Dear esteemed naga citizens,

As we gather here today to commemorate the 68th anniversary of our Republic, I profoundly thank our almighty God for guiding us all through these years without whom our journey might have been impossible. Today, we are reminded of the first session of the Tatar Hoho held on the 22nd of March 1956 at Parashan, Rengma region wherein Khanak Ngü Khüm (Federal Government of Nagaland) was established. And on this auspicious occasion, we honour the visionaries who through thick and thin and through rain and sunshine laid the foundation of our Republic and the countless sacrifices made by our forebearers to secure our liberty and uphold our sovereignty.

Since the inception of our Republic 68 years ago, we have traversed through myriad challenges and triumphs, emerging stronger and more resilient each time. Now, who will deny the submission of the memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929 by the erstwhile Naga Club (now NNC) or who will refute the NNC’s Declaration of 14th August 1947 as Independence Day of Nagaland. Also, I don’t think there is anyone who can question the authenticity of the naga plebiscite of 16th May 1951 which was organised and conducted by NNC. Or have we forgotten the Naga National Martyrs Day which falls on the 18th of October every year, observing and remembering the first naga martyr Zasibito Naga and other martyrs of NNC/FGN who laid down their precious lives for our liberty. All these historical events and political milestones of NNC entered into the  annals of naga history which no one can dispute.

Therefore, our commitment to the principles of NNC and to democracy, justice, equality and our stand on the naga Plebiscite of 16th May 1951 has been the guiding light steering us towards liberty.

As we celebrate the spirit of our Republic, we must also reflect on the responsibilities that accompany our freedoms. It is incumbent upon each one of us to uphold the principles of our Constitution, to safeguard the sovereignty of naga nation and to foster inclusivity and unity in our diverse society.

Today, in the midst of division and discord, our ability to celebrate diversity and harness it as a source of strength sets us apart as a beacon of hope and inspiration.

As we look towards the future, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a nation where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Let us strive to bridge the gaps that divide us, to confront the challenges that lie ahead with unwavering resolve, and to build a brighter tomorrow for generations to come.

On this momentous occasion, let us renew our pledge to uphold the ideals of our Republic and to work tirelessly towards realising the aspirations of our people. Together, let us march forward with determination and purpose, guided by the principles of non violence and of justice, equality, and fraternity.

May the spirit of our Republic continue to inspire us and guide us in our pursuit of a more just, inclusive, and prosperous society.

God bless Nagaland

Happy Republic Day!
