SP Phek lauds hard working nature of Pochury tribe
DIMAPUR — Phek Superintendent of Police, Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra, has lauded the artistic prowess of the Pochury community in pottery, salt-making and cane-craft, which has been preserved and practiced for generations.
Dr. Batra stated this during the Meluri Winter Fest held at Meluti town in Phek district on December 11. She appreciated the people of Meluri particularly the Pochury community for their dedicated and hardworking culture.
A DIPR report stated that Dr. Batra was pleased to learn about the various talents exhibited by the people of Pochury in trades such as pottery, salt making, and cane works, which has been preserved and practiced for generations.
In her speech, Dr. Batra cautioned that in the present day enemies of individuals and society are alcohol and drugs. She emphasised that indulging in those intoxicating elements could be more devastating than major wars. She called for collective efforts to address the challenges and promote a healthy and thriving community.
Dr. Batra also inaugurated the ‘Mountain Gems’ stall showcasing handicrafts and processed food set up by local entrepreneurs consisting of talented youths.
Report stated that she had previously initiated a free training programme on bamboo handicrafts and food processing in November 2023.
The evening fiesta featured a carol competition from nine wards, folk tunes and presentations of talents from various artistes and bands.
