DIMAPUR, MARCH 24

The 14th road undertaken for development by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) was inaugurated on Thursday with advisor to Urban Development, Imti Sungit Jamir as the chief guest of an event conducted at Kevijau colony in Dimapur.
Interestingly, residents of Kevijau Colony in Dimapur have demonstrated their concern for ‘development’ by contributing an amount of Rs. 3 lakh to the DMC to repairing the stretch of road adjacent to the inaugurated road. The inaugurated at Kevijau Colony road covers an area of 2215 sqm.
Impressed by the contribution made by the society, the chief guest said, ‘it’s a new sign of development.’ The politician said that the colony’s members had set an example which he explained was ‘not very common’ in Nagaland.
Jamir said that such gestures are ‘not much practiced in the society.’ The society in general always dreams of developments and better facilities but expects only the government to bring changes, the advisor said. Gestures such as the one extended by Kevijau colony’s members should be practiced by other wards ‘in order to unite and work together for development,’ he said.
‘Everybody talks about development but nobody want to contribute,’ Jamir lamented. ‘If we are not developed, others cannot develop us.’
The advisor for Urban Development also said that his department was ‘aiming to bring major developmental projects in the district as till date no major projects have knocked at the doors of Dimapur.’
Chief Executive Officer of the DMC, H. Atokhe Aye, also spoke during the day’s programme. He highlighted the constructions and repairing works undertaken by the DMC. All of them are being undertaken by the department ‘with no outside contractors,’ he explained.
Commenting on the Rs. 3 lakh donated by the citizens of the colony, the CEO gave his words that the department will make sure that construction is undertaken at the earliest ‘along with more financial assistance from the department.’
The DMC and its commitment to fulfilling ‘basic needs of the general public’ is also open to constructive criticism that can bring development, he added.
