Dimapur, June 16 (EMN): Act of Kindness (AOK) today offered voluntary service to help Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) in providing ‘Smooth ride for Dimapur.’

This initiative was launched today at Holy Cross junction, Dimapur, by the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Limasunep Jamir, IPS.

Though the turnout on Friday evening for the launch of ‘Smooth Ride for Dimapur’ was few, the Police Commissioner exhorted the members that ‘the intention of making changes is important than the numbers.’

Acknowledging that good road is a need for a city or town, Jamir has attributed ‘shortcomings’ for the present state of bad road condition. He has sought voluntary approach instead of blaming various departments or implementing agencies. ‘We cannot see tremendous change at a go but change can be possible only through small initiative,’ conveyed Jamir while quoting ‘small help is the best help.’

Pothhole, he said, is one reason for accidents and traffic in Dimapur but expressed optimism that the initiative of ‘Smooth Ride for Dimapur’ will ease and improve traffic concern, which is also root cause for accidents. The Commissioner of Police, assured assistance in terms of manpower and logistic support from the Police department whenever required.

Lenti Aier, the brainchild behind AOK, in her keynote address, articulated that we need to be stewards having ‘Dignity of labour,’ ‘sense of ownership’ and ‘responsibility’ for us to rise with a strong foundation.

It is easy to comment whenever there is any accident or condemn politicians for their acts, observed Aier. She, therefore, challenged to pause and take a stand for a good cause instead of being judgemental and criticising for the whole thing around us. DMC administrator, Moa Sangtam, briefing media persons, said the project ‘A Better Dimapur’ is to target the mindset of the people and inculcate civic sense through community participation. Sangtam highlighted that under the initiative of DMC in collaboration with Team Green Dimapur, Team Clean Dimapur and Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dimapur, ‘A Better Dimapur’ initiative includes three components ‘Greener Dimapur,’ ‘Cleaner Dimapur,’ and ‘A Healthy Dimapur.’

DMC is sponsoring all the materials and machineries for the project, while the labour will be provided by AOK for free. The project ‘A better Dimapur,’ which is a six month project, was launched on June 1, 2017, will culminate on November, 2017. After the assessment of the first phase project, the team will rectify its shortcomings before implementing the second phase which will set off in December or January, informed Sangtam.
