Skill training for DIPR officials underway

DIMAPUR — A two-day communication skill training for the District Public Relations Officers (DPRO), Assistant Public Relations Officers (APRO), and Information Assistants (IA) got underway at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in Kohima on Thursday.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, the IPR director, Dzüvinuo Theünuo, encouraged the officers and staff to know their foundation and reinvent themselves to meet the changing demands of the times. She reminded the officials that they are spokespersons of the government, a DIPR report stated.

The IPR additional director, Kevizayano, stressed the need for improvement among the officers of the department. She emphasised the importance of commitment, dedication and maintaining good interpersonal relationships within the department.

News editor of Akashvani Kohima, Asonuo, spoke on ‘Media relations and work ethics for public sector officers’ during the first session. She stressed on the ethical conducts, which a government official should adhere to a certain set of principles.

She also asked the trainees to keep the deadline of reports in mind and be committed to their job.

The IPR deputy director, Hongpi Konyak, encouraged the participants to have their own identity and highlight the achievements and policies of the government and be the bridge between government and the public.

He stressed on the need for team spirit from the senior officers to the ground level workers and added that as public relations officers, they need to push the image of the department. He asked the officials present to focus on the accuracy of their reporting.

It mentioned that the training was aimed at upgrading the skills and knowledge of the participants, enabling them to better serve the public and effectively communicate the government’s initiatives and policies.

The training covered various aspects of public relations, communication strategies, and the evolving role of the DIPR in the digital age. The participants actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences, contributing to a productive and enriching learning environment.

The training was expected to enhance professionalism and performance of the DIPR officers from all districts.
