DIMAPUR — The Department of Political Science, St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, in collaboration with the Research and Information System for Developing Societies (RIS, Delhi) and Northeastern Training Research and Advocacy Foundation (NETRA), conducted a one-day national symposium on India’s role in shaping Indo-Pacific regional order at St. Joseph University on July 26.
The symposium was attended by UG and PG students from St. John College, C-Edge College, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Testo College, ICFAI University Nagaland, with Forward Nagaland NEWS (FNN) as the media partner, the university stated in an update.
The symposium was aimed to explore India’s influence, contributions and challenges to the evolving Indo-Pacific regional order on various aspects such as economic, political, connectivity, and societes in the Indo-Pacific regions.
In his keynote address, Dr. Nabarun Roy from the Department of International Relations, South Asian University, New Delhi, remarked on the constructed notion of the Indo-Pacific in contemporary international politics.
Roy emphasised on India’s approach since the 1950s and how the country viewed the strategic landscape on the question of alliances and defense pacts.
Dr. Temjenmeren, associate fellow at IDSA, New Delhi spoke on ‘India and Southeast Asia building consensus in the Indo-Pacific’; Dr. Salikyu, associate professor at Tetso College spoke on the topic ‘India: vacillating between history and ambition’ and Benjungnungsang, assistant professor, St. Joseph University, spoke on ‘The significance of the Indian Ocean in the Indo-Pacific Region.’
The valedictory speech was delivered by Dr. Joyce Sabina Lobo, St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Bangalore. Lobo spoke on the dynamics and role of various countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
Dr. Somingam Mawon, associate professor at St. Joseph University delivered the concluding remarks.
