St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, organised  a state-level inter-institutional cultural festival titled ‘Cultura’ on February 17 at the university premises.

An update from the university stated that the programme began with a prayer led by Fr. Augustin, MMI representative, followed with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Somingam Mawon, assistant professor of Political Science and a song was presented by the music society of SJU.

The chief guest and director of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, Dr. Prashanna Gogoi, has highlighted the importance of such an event and its role in promoting sustainable social and economic development for future generations.

He was of the opinion that such a platform would emit a sense of transmitting cultural values among the youth and also bridge the various cultural and ethnic differences. He further promised to help the participants to compete outside the state, which would be sponsored by the Ministry of Culture.

It stated that students from various institutions participated in various activities like folk song, go-karting, folk drama, oil painting, bamboo crafts, folk fusion dance, women’s tug of war, greased bamboo pole climbing etc.

To encourage the students, awards and certificates were given to various winners and participants. Renowned artistes Kekhrie Ringa and Colored Keys enthralled the audience with their performances.
