DIMAPUR — The Department of Botany and the Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC) at St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, in collaboration with the Regional Ayurveda Research Centre (RARC) in Dimapur, organised a one-day ‘Free Prakriti health assessment camp for staff’ on September 7.

The camp, held from 9 am to 2:30 pm, was a comprehensive event aimed at enhancing the health and wellness of SJU’s faculty and staff, an update stated.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 50 staff members, including heads of departments, professors, associate professors, assistant professors, lab and office assistants, as well as university transport drivers and technicians.

The commenced kicked with a welcome address by Dr. K Kumar, assistant professor, followed by an exhortation from Dr. K Rajaganesh, dean of Science and Management Studies.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. T Lirola Sangtam, assistant professor and head of the Department of Botany.

Participants began the day by filling out their details in a registration form to receive a Prakriti card.

The focus of the camp was on Ayurvedic principles, particularly the concept of Tridosha and Prakriti. Ayurvedic physician Dr. Vilas Gangurde, research officer in charge at RARC, along with Dr. Neha Mech and Dr. Laiphrakpam Renu Devi, led the practical sessions on assessing Prakriti.

They provided the participants with valuable health and wellness counselling, emphasising the balance of the three doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha — and their impact on physical, physiological, psychological and behavioral characteristics.

Nikhil Krishna, research assistant at RARC, facilitated the registration process and issuance of Prakriti cards through the CCRAS AYUR Prakriti web portal.

The physicians offered an overview of Prakriti and guided the SJU faculty through practical sessions, enhancing their understanding of how dosha balance affects overall well-being.

The camp concluded with closing remarks from Heilungraing Haiding, assistant professor in the Department of Botany, who expressed gratitude to the physicians, organisers and participants.

Dr. Temsurenla, assistant professor in the Department of Botany, pronounced benediction.

“Overall, the Prakriti health assessment camp was a significant step in promoting holistic health and well-being within the St. Joseph University community,” it stated.
