SJU conducts freshers’ induction programme
DIMAPUR — St. Joseph University (SJU) held its freshers’ induction programme for postgraduate students on Wednesday, featuring a series of addresses and sessions that provided a comprehensive introduction to university life.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Sr. Thianes Mary DMI, deputy registrar of SJU, underscored the significance of this pivotal moment in the students’ academic journeys.
Dr. D Gnanadurai, vice chancellor of St. Joseph University, delivering the presidential address, offered insights into the institution’s history, mission, and core values.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Joe Mariadhas, director of the Shalom Rehabilitation Centre in Chümoukedima, gave the keynote speech on the theme “Educate to elevate”. He stressed the uniqueness of each academic stream and the importance of aspiration in achieving success.
He encouraged students to learn, aspire, and realise their potential, highlighting that aspiration is crucial to avoid stagnation and downfall. He noted that adaptability and the ability to transform knowledge into action are key to personal and academic growth.
Students were also familiarised with the academic structure of the university as part of the event. Dr. Kinitoli H Yeptho, dean of Social Sciences, and Dr. S Thiyagarajan, controller of examinations, provided detailed overviews of the academic programmes and the examination and evaluation systems.
