DIMAPUR — The 10th ‘Spring Fest 2024’ of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) in Jakhama got underway on Friday with the advisor to chief minister, Abu Metha, as the special guest on the theme ‘Timeless tradition.’
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Metha conveyed his appreciation to the Catholic community for their contributions to the society. He said that Catholic institutions have gone to the difficult areas to provide humanitarian services such as education and health care services since the time of statehood and even before, stated a DIPR report.
Metha encouraged the students saying, “Be a contributing member not after you graduate, not after you get married, but be a contributing member today and every day. This is how we built a better society.”
As power is determined by knowledge, he encouraged the students to make use of the tools of today’s technology to empower themselves with knowledge.
Describing Kohima as a city that changed the course of history, the special guest stated that the students who studied here will tell their children that they walked the road where superpowers walked and fought for.
He further wished the festival a grand success and urged all the students of Nagaland to take the opportunity as everyone has a potential to go and change the world.
The Bishop of Kohima, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil was the guest of honour.
A song was presented by the college choir and a special appearance was made by Lenen Jamir.
Activities of the 10th Spring Fest competitions included folk dance, war cry, pork fat eating, traditional fire making, modern dance, strongest Josephite, beat contest, stilt walking, catapult shooting, tug of war, go kart race etc.
