Chennai, Sep. 1 (IANS): The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Thursday suspended six lawyers, including one facing murder charges and another one accused in a POCSO case, from practicing.

The action has been initiated either due to the complaints received against them or because of registration of criminal charges.

Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Secretary C. Rajkumar said that the suspended lawyers include P. Rajendran who was serving as a science teacher in a government school in Nagaland for the past 23 years without suspending his practice.

Advocate, K. Karthi of Tiruvannamalai district was suspended from practice as he was an accused in a murder case registered against him at the Arni police station.

Advocate Dinesh Kumar of Tiruvannamalai was facing a charge of kidnapping booked against him by Raniapuram police station in Chennai. Another advocate, S. Senthilkumar of Kulithalai in Karur district, was an accused in a case booked at an All Women police station in Kuluthalai under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso)Act, 2012.

Two advocates, C. Elangovan and A. Pugalendy were both suspended as they reportedly threatened and tried bribery to get recognition for their local bar association.

The six lawyers can resume practice only after the disposal of the disciplinary actions against them.
