Shikhsha Saptah culminates with Tithi Bhojan
KOHIMA — The week-long Shikhsha Saptah (Education Week), featuring various activities to mark the 4th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 culminated on Saturday. The events were held under the aegis of the Department of School Education.
The educational week culminated by observing Eco Club for Mission LiFE, community participation and Tithi Bhojan involving schools and education offices at all levels.
In the state capital, School Education officials conducted social work at the Directorate of School Education and cleaned the office premises in the morning hours and also planted trees and flowers around the office.
The commissioner and secretary of School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami; deputy mission director of Samagra Shiksha Mission, Kelhikha Kenye; and other officials of the School Education department visited Government Middle School (GMS), Phezoucha, New Secretariat area in Kohima. The president of Phezhoucha Colony, Kekhrielelie Tseikha; chairman of School Management Committee (SMC), Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu, and others were also present.
Speaking at the event, Kevileno Angami has explained the purpose behind observing Shikhsha Saptah involving both government and private schools. She asserted that a lot of insights have been gained throughout the week.
She also spoke on Tithi Bhojan, a concept which started from Gujarat encouraging community participation and contribution towards the mid-day meal to ensure nutrition for the students. Stating that the mid-day meal (MDM) is to provide nutrition to the children, she has appreciated the community contribution towards MDM.
The SMC chairman, Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu, has acknowledged the commissioner and secretary of School Education and SCERT for sponsoring the MDM for the school on the last day of the education week.
The commissioner and secretary along with the deputy mission director and SMC chairman also planted trees and interacted with the students, while the students engaged in knitting, winnowing of rice, basket-making and making of dustbins using eco-friendly materials.
Simultaneously, Temsunaro Aier, commissioner and secretary of IPR and state mission director of Samagra Shiksha, and Thavaseelan K, principal director of School Education, also sponsored lunch to students, teachers and SMC members of GHS Forest Colony and GMS (CwSN) Lerie, Kohima. They also served food to students as part of Tithi Bhojan.
It may be mentioned here that the day focused on plantation of fruit trees by students along with parents, teachers and education officials. Students also created eco- friendly waste bins using bamboos.
Besides, social work, awareness programme on conservation of nature, SMC meetings on NEP 2020 were organised in different schools.
The fourth anniversary of NEP 2020 would be observed on July 29, 2024.
