Shamator Town Public Forum sticks to its demand for adequate manpower, facilities at CHC

DIMAPUR— The Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) has decided to stick to its demand for deployment of adequate manpower and required facilities at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Shamator, as mentioned in its representation to the department of Health and Family Welfare.

In a press statement issued a day after the Health department sought cooperation to address the issues, saying that it is in the process of rationalisation of health units across the state amid acute shortage of health workers, the STPF said it had reaffirmed its stand as the district still doesn’t have a fully equipped CHC while it is “now in the provision of District Hospital”.

“It is evident that the lives of the entire citizen has been threatened as there is only one general duty medical office, and one dental surgeon (no dental equipment were provided) for the entire populace at CHC Shamator to effectively tackle the present scenario,” read the press statement.

It said the people of the district are forced to travel to other district hospitals for medical assistance due to lack of facilities at the CHC though they are economically poor.

While requesting the concerned department to conduct a spot or physical verification of the facilities at the health centre, the forum asked ‘if the CHC Shamator has being set up for the sake of embellishment of the department’.

Alleging discrimination, the forum demanded the Health department to inaugurate the CHC building, deploy adequate manpower and install necessary medical equipment before the expiry of its one month deadline (representation submitted on May 31).

“In the event of failing to address the demand within the stipulated date, the Health department shall be solely held responsible for any consequences thereafter,” it added.
