Seniors Masters League: Kohima Legends down Old Boys by 4 wickets.

DIMAPUR — Kohima Legends defeated Kohima Old Boys by four wickets at the on ongoing Seniors Masters League 2023-24, played at Sovima cricket stadium, Chümoukedima, on Sunday.

The Kohima Old Boys won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a respectable target of 137/5 in 20 overs with Khriesamhalie Yhome notching up an impressive 47 runs not out.

Kohima Legends’ bowler Dziesengulie Pienyu dismantled the rival’s top-order batsmen, claiming the wickets of Aosungkum and Vizalie Shuya in the initial part of the match, reducing the opponents to 13/2 in 2.5 overs.

However, Limawati Imchen and middle order batsmen Kevilelie Khesoh were able to rescue the team from their disastrous start, by scoring a crucial partnership of 33 runs.

Following the loss of Imchen’s wicket in 10.5 overs, Khriesamhalie Yhome and Masetshilong Longkumer took the game forward with Yhome scoring a blistering 47 runs and Longkumer contributing a crucial 32 runs, taking the target to 137 runs on the score board.

Chasing the target, the Kohima Legends started on a shaky note as three of their top-order batsmen fell in quick succession, and at one stage the team were reduced to 34/3 in just 4.1 overs.

However, Manoj Kumar managed to steer the game away from the brink of defeat with a much-needed contribution of 58 runs along with middle order batsmen Tapitu Apen Tupitor, who notched 23 runs.

In the end, Kohima Legends’ Diethozo Thakhro and Mengu Sachu comfortably steered their team to victory, successfully chasing down the target with 4 wickets in hand. Manoj Kumar from Kohima Legends was adjudged man of the match for his 58 runs.

Earlier on Saturday, Lhomithi Veterans SC defeated NITians by two wickets.

NITN Super Kings opted to bat first and set a target of 102/6 in 20 overs, which Lhomithi Veterans SC achieved in 18.5 overs with a loss of eight wickets.

Om Prakash Tripathi of Lhomithi was adjudged man of the match for scoring 52 runs.

The match between ESA Warriors and Chumou Blaster was called off due to some technical problems, and rescheduled to December 10.
