Senapati Sporting Club lifts Kohima Open Volleyball Tournament

KOHIMA — Senapati Sporting Club from Manipur clinched the 11th Kohima Open Volleyball Tournament on Friday at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.

The three-day event was organised by the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA).

In the men’s final, Senapati Sporting Club defeated Kiruphema Youth Organisation-B in straight sets 25-23, 25-21, and 25-18.

As champions, they took home a cash prize of INR 1 lakh, while the runner-up team was awarded INR 50,000.

The semi-finalists Blind Spikers Akuluto VK and Japfü Range Volleyball Club each received INR 15,000.

In the women’s category, Senapati Sporting Club continued their winning streak by defeating MADFA Club Dimapur in the final with scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-14.

The team secured a cash prize of INR 60,000, while runner-up took home INR 30,000.

Individual awards were presented to outstanding players, with the best setter and best spiker in both the men’s and women’s categories receiving INR 5,000 each.

In the men’s category, Deepak (Senapati Sporting Club) won Best Setter, and Sakil (Senapati Sporting Club) was named Best Spiker. For the women, Ruby (Senapati Sporting Club) took Best Setter, and Sangita Das (MADFA Club Dimapur) was awarded Best Spiker.

During the closing ceremony, Roko Angami, OSD (Sports), department of Youth Resources & Sports and a former international football player, graced the event as the guest of honour and presented prizes to the winners.

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Councillor from Daklane, Kazheli Tungoe attended the women’s final as the match patron. While Neidilhoutuo (Neibu) Sechü, general secretary of Angami Youth Organisation and Vice President of Nagaland Wushu Association, was the patron for the first men’s semi-final, while KMC Councillor for Kitsubozou Vimhalie Pienyü was the patron for the second men’s semi-final.
