Security scenario improved significantly in Manipur, says La Ganesan
Says the law and order situation and security environment in Manipur have improved significantly in the recent years
The 3rd session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly commenced on Thursday with an address by Governor La Ganesan.
The Governor in his address highlighted the achievements of the state government under Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who was sworn-in for the second term on March 21, 2022.
Ganesan informed the house that the law and order situation and security environment in Manipur have improved significantly in the recent years.
“With improved security scenario, 15 police station areas in six districts of the state have been excluded from the Disturbed Area Notification with effect from April 1, 2022…The Armed Forces Special Powers Act has been revoked from these areas,” he said.
Mentioning on the government’s entering into a cessation of operation agreement with the Zeliangrong United Front, an armed outfit, Ganesan said the centre approved construction of 34 police outposts along indo-Myanmar international border and six police outposts along National Highway-37 (imphal-Jiribam) with cost of INR 80.40 crore under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States.
As part of continuing the fight against drugs under the initiative of ‘War on Drugs 2.0’, the government had destroyed 3,517 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in different areas of the state and 2,567 kg of contraband drugs disposed during last year, he added.
More than 2,384 kg of drugs including of heroin, brown sugar, opium, amphetamine, ganja, methamphetamine, spasmo proxyvon and nearly 40,000 bottles of cough syrup were seized.
504 cases were registered under ND&PS Act and 32 persons were convicted. 84 persons were detained under PIT NDPS Act, he said.
In the health sector, more than 1.30 lakh patients (out of 6.73 lakh beneficiaries enrolled) have benefited till date under CMHT-state health scheme, the governor said.
Similarly 85,866 beneficiaries (out of 4.76 lakh beneficiaries enrolled) have availed treatment till date with treatment cost of INR 111 .80 crore borne under the scheme.
Under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, additional free rice of 5 kg per person per month was provided to all NFSA beneficiaries till December 2022. And Under Ujjwala schemes, 2,00,658 beneficiaries were provided free LPG connection, he added.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur Governor summoned the 3rd session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly in exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India. The house will continue till February 3.
